Mark Hood writes speculative fiction that blends myth, folklore, historical science fiction and human-scale drama.
His books include the Martians Return series beginning with The Return of the Martians, following the traumatised narrator of the H.G. Wells classic through the second Martian Invasion. He also draws on ancient legends and modern fears in the Fae Defence Society series of modern-day urban fantasy where the darker side of fairy stories comes too close to home.
His short stories explore the same themes, crossing genre boundaries but always exploring the beliefs and explanations we weave around ourselves to understand the world.
He lives and works in the English county of Shropshire which allows him plenty of opportunities to stare out of the window at gorgeous scenery when he ought to be writing.
